AW20 :: cA$H fOR gOLD

The FW20 the collection shown in the NYC Diamond Exchange is called “The Exchange”. The collection is a celebration of cultures, decadence, and a mashup of festivities spanning through various eras such as a 70s bar mitzvah disco party, Eastern European opulence, my grandparents collection of silver tea sets and Judaica objects, lavish parties in old films, Marilyn Monroe in gentlemen prefer blondes, and the Hollywood glamorization of mobster life; in a nutshell old New York. I am drawn to the hustle, grit and glamour of the district, an un gentrified multicultural pocket of the city where old family owned industries operate vulnerably under looming threats by developers. Shamelessly indulging in an opulent lost luxury aesthetic, the pieces wink cherished glimmers to assets slithering away. Some highlights from this collection include upcycled vintage beaded tunics transformed into various hoodies, bomber jackets and coats. The intricacies of the vintage beading remain but they became more practical and less delicate by adding contemporary touches such as reflective linings and new hardware, making them more wearable in day to day life.  Also included in the collection is a structured minidress with a train, made from original prints of champagne toasts, and a Hebrew one with the “Chai” symbol which means life (as a response to heightened anti semitic tone in the world currently).  Artistic embroidery and appliqués that resemble abstract constellations, and graphic tees were also showcased featuring my original digital artwork.  The collection is quite diverse, and offers pieces made with luxurious silks and velvets, littered with retro cuts and rare colors such as persimmon, cerese and peach.  There are many genderless pieces, some that are subversively modest and others that show a dangerous amount of skin so it’s an exciting mix.
